"Classy hotel with the feeling of old southern charm!"

Golf Mecca

Marnie Kunz of the Atlanta Journal Constitution recently wrote about three golf meccas in the southeast. She clearly forgot one!

“From the piney woods of North Carolina to the coastal beauty of South Carolina and warm winters of Florida, the Southeast beckons golfers from across the globe each year. Before you pack up the clubs for your next golf getaway, check out the latest openings, specials and insider’s tips on where to find your best round.”

In her article, she specifically mentions Orlando, FL Hilton Head, SC and Sandhills, NC. But what about Aiken? Aiken has some of the greatest golf courses anywhere and the best hospitality around.

Read the whole article here and feel free to contact Ms. Kunz and let her know of your experiences in Aiken.

In an effort to keep our guests informed about the hotel business in general, we are pleased to present information in these pages from some noted sources in the industry. In the past 10 years there are a number of lessons learned in the boutique hotel business and here are a few of those observations.

  • The boutique hotel may be the destination, not the city where the boutique hotel is located. This is particularly true of properties where the cultural and historical benefits of a city are close to the hotel.
  • Travelers will pay for comfort. While conspicuous consumption is not in vogue, travelers will pay for creature comforts.
  • High-end boutique hotels will corner the pet-friendly market. Travelers like to take their pets, but don’t want to be relegated to the economy hotels. People will pay more to bring their pets to an upscale boutique hotel.
  • Independent hotels may band together to become regional brands. While large chains are trying to act like independents, the boutiques will soon take a page out of the chain playbook and create informal regional networks where one boutique manager recommends another boutique hotel in another region to keep customers in the boutique fold.

As the country pulls out of this recession, Craig Neddersen the co-founder and president of Inn Development & Management Group LLC predicts a mix of risk and reward for the independent hotel market.
